Well, I survived another April of the intense Rayong weather
While the 3:00 AM scramble to save my electronics from the balcony wasn’t exactly the “refreshing” start I envisioned, there is no denying that Rayong weather in May is a massive relief.
After weeks of hiding in the air-con and watching the thermometer tick past 40°C, the sound of a tropical downpour is like music.
The best part of the rainy season here isn’t just the cooler air; it’s the way the landscape transforms.
The dry, dusty brown edges of the road are already turning a vibrant, neon green.
If you’re around the Mae Ramphueng Beach area or hanging out near the city center, the post-rain atmosphere is the perfect time to grab a coffee and actually enjoy being outdoors without melting.
Sure, the humidity stays high, and you have to keep a sharp eye on your laundry and your gear, but I’ll take a cooling thunderstorm over that “horrendous” April heat any day of the week.
It’s officially time to trade the sunscreen for an umbrella—or just accept that you’re going to get soaked and enjoy the cool-down!
| Season | Typical Months | Characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Hot Season | March – Mid-May | Intense heat (peaking in April), high humidity, and clear skies. |
| Rainy Season | Mid-May – October | Frequent afternoon or night showers, lush landscapes, and relief from the heat. |
| Cool Season | November – February | Lower humidity, “crisp” air, and the most comfortable temperatures for travel. |
If you are planning on coming to Thailand, now is a good time.

“Whether you’re a long-term expat or just visiting for the weekend, the shift in Rayong weather is a reminder of how quickly nature can turn the heat down and bring the garden back to life.”
