A Face Only a Knitter Could Love: The Charm of My Ugly Cats

I took my knitted cats out for a spin today, and honestly, they always draw a reaction!

I know they are bad and ugly, but I have definitely seen far worse on Facebook. There is a real charm in handmade creations that don’t turn out quite like the picture on the pattern box.

To hide some of the… unique stitching choices holding these big heads up, I am making custom collars this week, complete with little bells. It adds a bit of personality and cleverly hides the dreadful seams where the heads attach to the bodies!

I’ve bought many cat patterns over the years, but no matter what I try, mine still end up looking like foxes.

Part of the reason they turn out so large comes down to needle size.
I simply cannot knit with a 3 mm needle anymore—4 mm is my absolute minimum due to hand pain when working some of the more tedious stitches.

I also strictly avoid any pattern that calls for PURL FRONT AND BACK (PFB). It has to be the most dreadful stitch ever invented! Instead of struggling through a pattern that causes pain, I just adapt the instructions to fit my skills (or lack thereof).
