The convenience shattered
When i arrived at the airport I turned on my AIS sim card and it said NO SERVICE.
This is the sim I had been paying every month while overseas so that I could keep the same number.
I went to an AIS booth at the airport and they told me that Thailand had changed all the sim cards and mine would no longer work.
I bought a new sim with a new number.
The new sim was just a sim for tourists with an expiration date of 7 days.
The next day I went to SCB bank as I was unable to access my SCB app due to these bloody anti money laundering laws.
They got the app working but registered the new phone number.
I had a feeling that this would cause me dramas in the future and i was right.
My next stop was the AIS phone shop

The store examined my old sim, and said they would replace it for me.
So I now had the old number back that I have had for more than 10 years.
I checked my banking app, and yes It worked.
It looked like everything was going to be ok.
Here you can use the bank App to pay anywhere
In Rayong, you can pay for almost everything just using your phone.
Open the SCB app and hit scan, and make your payment.
I was able to pay at a restaurant, pay for a grab ride and pay for shopping at the supermarket.
All of this convenience ended last night when i scanned a bar code on my computer to order some meat pies from an Australian baker in Pattaya.
My banking app suddenly reverted to the login screen.
after attempting to log in it said my number didn’t match the banks record.
This was after 3 weeks , so clearly the system is slow to detect my phone number had changed .
I will have to go back to the bank tomorrow and get them to link the old phone number again.
I still have access to the ATM and have funds, but i really liked the convenience of using the app.
